Set an intention to find balance in your celebrations – look for the sweet spot between deprivation and overindulgence. Be mindful about getting to the point where you don’t feel well.
Food is fuel, but food is also a social indulgence and a source of pleasure. Look to feel satisfied and then let any negative feelings go. Avoid labeling your food choices (good and bad), look for nutrient dense choices to go along with treats.
Check in with your body – How do you feel? Are you still hungry, just right or starting to get full. Not sure, wait a few minutes and re-evaluate.
Connect with your taste buds – Are you enjoying what you are eating? Does it taste good to you? Would you rather be eating something else or nothing at all?
Savor your food, the textures, the smells, how the food feels in your mouth. Slow down, chew your food, breathe and let it all digest. Enjoy being with the people who are accompanying you at the table.
Now more than ever, Sit Down, Slow Down and Savor the Flavor.
