Real Food and Staples

Real Food:

I am not a doctor, a nutritionist or a chef. I am passionate about cooking delicious food. The recipes on my blog contain REAL FOOD. When I explain to people how I cook, I don’t talk about what we do and don’t eat in our house. I simply say that we eat real food. What is real food? Fruits and vegetables, lean protein, nuts and seeds and oils.

What this means is that we try very hard not to eat things that are highly processed. So, we typically don’t eat things that contain gluten, dairy, soy, corn, legumes or sugar. Our boys eat a lot of real food, especially for dinner, but not 100% of the time.  We try very hard to keep a healthy balance.

The blog recipes are constructed in a way to accommodate my food sensitivities. Typically, I will not include the following ingredients:

1. Onions (scallions or chives as an alternative)
2. Garlic (Garlic infused olive oil as an alternative)
3. Honey (maple syrup or coconut sugar as an alternative)
4. Apples, Pears, Pit Fruits, watermelon
5. Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Califlower, Cabbage, Green peppers  (Beets, mushrooms, asparagus, snap peas and green beans only in small quantities.)

Please feel free to add in onions, garlic, honey, fruits and vegetables as you see fit. These are difficult ingredients to omit from cooking all the time! I will often offer these ingredients up as an option if it looks and sounds good to me!

One last thing, my whole family has a sweet tooth!  So, I do occasionally make treats and those treats will often contain chocolate and the sugar (in the chocolate) that goes along with it.
